2012 Top Lites Privateer Joins TM Racing Australia for 2013 Australian Supercross Championship
Nick Sutherland, the highest ranked lites privateer in the 2012 Australian Supercross Championship has signed on to ride for TM Racing Australia in this year’s championship.
Sutherland had aa solid 2012 Supercross season, finishing 6th in the Lites class at the end of the championship that included top ten results at three of the four rounds.
At the end of the Australian Supercross season, the recently turned 22 year old headed to Indonesia for an invitational race where he unfortunately suffered a knee injury that ruled him out of the 2013 Monster Energy MX Nationals.
With his recovery coming along nicely and after spending the past few months back riding, Sutherland is ready to go racing and may make an appearance on the national motocross circuit before Supercross to get some race time under his belt.
“I had spoken to Andrew Franklin from TM a few times in the past about trying to get something happening and get myself aboard a TM we spoke a few times over the past couple of months and I am happy to say that I will be riding a TM during Supercross this year,” Sutherland said.
“I’ll be riding the TM MX 250 Fi four stroke in Supercross. I have spent a day riding Supercross on it,” the rider originally from Inverell, New South Wales explained. “I was reasonably nervous since I had not ridden a SX track for awhile.
“I got used to the bike really quick, adapted to the feel of it, the bike turns an handles unbelievable, pumped to get the chance to ride it in Supercross.
“I have also been out to Queensland Moto Park on the TM 250 two stroke, and that bike is also so much fun to ride. Straight out of the box the bike was great, if time permits I may ride one or two MX races on the two stroke in the lead up to SX before making the switch to the four stroke,” he added.
With consistent top ten results in last year’s Supercross championship, Sutherland who currently resides in Boonah, Queensland will be aiming to step up his results again in 2013 aiming for top five results.
“I had a good season last year, even with a few disappointing rides I still ended up sixth overall and the top privateer. This year I’d like to see myself a consistent top five rider, and finish the series in the top five,” Sutherland stated.
“I have to give a big big thanks to everyone who has supported my return to racing, I definitely would not be doing the series without the ride with TM Racing Australia thanks to Andrew Franklin and also my personal sponsors that include Andrew Duncan, Smith kidz racing, Lusty Industries and of course my Dad.
Sutherland will join fellow TM Racing Australia team members Nyk Geck and Ryan Ziepes in a three-prong Lites attack on the 2013 Australian Supercross Championship.
