Nyk Geck Races to Top Ten Finish at Qld MX Championship for TM Racing Australia

TM Racing Australia’s Nyk Geck raced to a solid top ten overall finish at the Queensland Motocross State Championship held at the Townsville Motocross Club from the 28th to the 30th of June 2013.

Making the trek from Ipswich to Townsville for the event, Geck did not get his championship campaign off to the start he was looking for, with the 23 year old sitting his TM MX250Fi on the back wheel the whole way down the start straight at the beginning of moto one on Friday, leaving him near last out of the first turn.

As he showed at the MX Nationals round at Conondale a few weeks prior, Geck is not a rider who will ever give up and quickly put his head down and went to work on making up as many positions as possible.

By race end, Nyk has made is way through the 38 rider field to finish with an impressive 9th place result.

“The first race was pretty good,” explained Nyk, “I got off to a bad start as was all but last, but I was able to work my way back up and finish in 9th place.

Race two held on Saturday did not go Nyk’s way with a crash leaving him to finish in 16th position and only picking up five championship points for the race.

With only the one race for the day, Nyk was left to wait until Sunday to get his championship back on track.

On Sunday Nyk bounced back in races three and four, finishing 10th in race three after being as high as 7th before a small tip over seen him drop a few position.

Nyk then finished off the championship with an 11th place finish in the final race, giving him a 10th place finish overall for the Queensland state championship.

“Race two was my only bad race for the event, “Nyk explained. “I got caught up in a crash in the first lap. Two riders hit in the air and I had nowhere to go and went down with them.

“By the time I got going again I was nearly a lap behind the lead riders. I was able to get back to 16th, it was not exactly what I was looking for and that one result let my overall result down for weekend.

“If it was not for that race I would have finished 7th or 8th in the championship,” Nyk added.

“Overall I felt good on the bike over the three days, it was a hot weekend up there in Townsville and I was able to ride every moto out.

“I was happy to come away from the weekend with a top ten result,” he concluded.

Joining Nyk under the TM Racing Australia team tent over the course of the titles was Michael Munro who competed in the Senior Open class aboard a TM MX450Fi. Munro improved his results all event long, finishing the event with a 19-17-16-15 scorecard for 18th overall.

Team owner Andrew Franklin was happy with the weekend’s results and is looking forward to the teams’ next outing at round seven of the Sunshine State MX Championship being held at Tivoli, before starting preparations for the 2013 Supercross Championship.

“Both the boys rode well over the course of the championship,”

Andrew commented. “Nyk rode strong all weekend and if it were not for a crash that he could not avoid his overall result would have been even better.

“Nyk’s charge through the field in the opening race was impressive and really set the tone for him for the remainder of the races.

“We will head to Tivoli in a couple of weeks time for the next round of the Sunny States and in the mean time finish working on Nyk’s Supercross track and turn our focus to getting ready for the Supercross season.” Andrew concluded.
