TM MOTO STEELS DR JACK – MX2 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP – GP OF FIANDRE
The thirteenth round of the MXGP World Championship was held at the historic and extremely difficult Lommel circuit in Belgium. A circuit with a sandy and particularly treacherous surface that always puts machines and riders to the test.
Our Meico Vettik took part in the MX2 World Championship test for the first time this year to test some technical innovations and see how competitive the package is at certain levels.
After finishing 18th in Saturday morning’s time trials Meico took on the RAM Qualifying race starting in the middle of the group and beginning a comeback that was taking him into the top twenty. Then a crash relegated him past the 30th position. From there he restarted and made some overtaking moves before the end, finishing 30th at the chequered flag.
On Sunday at the start of race one, he again found himself in the middle of the pack but his pace allowed him to climb up to 15th position with a few laps to go. Unfortunately, in a moment of difficulty, he put his foot on the ground and sprained his right knee, which prevented him from finishing the race.
When he returned to the pits the pain increased and, in agreement with the team, it was decided not to take part in race two in order not to risk aggravating the situation and to rest to be ready for the next round of the EMX250 European Championship to defend and, if anything, improve his position in the championship.
The sprain seems not to be serious, so in three weeks in Sweden Meico should be in good condition for the race.
The regret remains for a good experience that was showing how good the bike and rider are. Surely between now and the end of the year there could be other opportunities to compete in the World Championship.
The appointment therefore set for 12th and 13th August at Uddevalla for the Swedish GP.
