Mondiale Motocross GP Portogallo

Siamo giunti alla sesta prova del mondiale 2013 e, in concomitanza con la MX1 e la MX2, sono scesi in pista anche il Campionato Europeo 125 e 250. Nella “quarto di litro” oltre a Filippo Zonta si è unito anche Lorenzo Ravera.
Nelle prove cronometrate della MX1, Shaun Simpson è riuscito a conquistare un ottimo decimo tempo che faceva ben sperare per la manche di qualifica; purtroppo Shaun nel primo giro è stato buttato a terra da un avversario, a causa della caduta ha danneggiato la sua Tm e ha dovuto ritirarsi. Al via delle manche di domenica Simpson si è dovuto schierare in 26° posizione. Nella prima manche, Shaun è riuscito a partire fortissimo recuperando molte posizioni e per gran parte della gara ha occupato la settima posizione, ma a pochi giri dalla fine è scivolato concludendo 11°. Nella seconda manche, Simpson riesce a partire ancora una volta molto bene portandosi subito in decima posizione che ha mantenuto fino sotto la bandiera a scacchi.
Ivo Monticelli nella MX2 non è mai riuscito a trovare il giusto feeling con la pista portoghese e nella manche di qualifica non è riuscito a fare meglio del 22° posto. In Gara 1, Ivo Monticelli non è riuscito a migliorare la sua posizione andando a concludere ancora in 22° posizione, nella seconda heat, Ivo è stato costretto al ritiro per un problema tecnico.
Samuele Bernardini nell’Europeo 250 ha commesso qualche errore di troppo e dopo essersi qualificato per la finale ha chiuso in 28° posizione.
Nella 125 gara di apprendistato per i due piloti del team motocross della Federazione Italiana hanno chiuso con il 23° posto Ravera e il 27° Zonta.
Quindici giorni di pausa e poi si volerà in Brasile per la settima prova.

“Questo GP del Portogallo, a parte la seconda manche della MX1 è sicuramente da dimenticare. Infatti solo il decimo posto di Shaun in gara due ha risollevato la situazione. Sia l’Europeo 125 e l’Europeo MX2 sono state due categorie che non ci hanno visti protagonisti. C’era la possibilità di fare almeno qualche punto ma alcune cadute di troppo hanno compromesso qualsiasi risultato. Stesso discorso per Ivo Monticelli nel Mondiale MX2 che fin dai primi giri di sabato non ha trovato il feeling giusto con la pista.”
Ivo Monticelli pilota MX2:
“C’è poco da dire. E’ stato un GP dove non ho combinato proprio nulla. Fin dal sabato non sono riuscito a trovare le traiettorie giuste e questo mi ha fatto innervosire. Poi ho anche sbagliato alcune regolazioni della moto e questo ha completato il tutto. Torno a casa con niente di fatto e sono ancora molto arrabbiato con me stesso.”
Shaun Simpson pilota MX1:
“Ho fatto un GP con alterna fortuna. Nella gara del sabato sono caduto con Guarneri, ho rotto il radiatore e mi sono dovuto ritirare. Nelle gare della domenica sono partito bene. In gara uno ero ben piazzato al settimo posto ma poi ho fatto uno stupido errore su un salto e sono passato al nono posto. A tre giri dalla fine sia Strijbos che Gonçalves mi hanno superato e ho chiuso undicesimo. In gara due, ho fatto ancora una buona partenza ma sono stato chiuso dal gruppo e non sono riuscito a fare meglio del decimo posto. Ci sono stati però dei bei progressi, ho preso 21 punti e ho recuperato un paio di posizione nella classifica assoluta. Adesso si va in Brasile e spero di migliorare ancora.”
In Mx1 Pre Qualifying Practices, Shaun Simpson gained a great 10th place; unfortunately, in the Qualifying Race, during the first lap, Shaun crashed because of a bad contact with another rider and his TM got damaged and he was forced to abandon.
On Sunday, Simpson went to the starting gate in 26th place. In the first heat, Shaun started really fast catching up many positions and maintaining the 7th place for most of the race, but few laps before the chequered flag he made a little mistake finishing 11th. In the second heat, Simpson still had a great start gaining the 10th place and maintaining it till the finish line.
In Mx2, Ivo Monticelli didn’t find the right feeling with the Portuguese track and in the Qualifying Race he finished 22nd. In the first race, Ivo Monticelli didn’t improve his performance finishing 22nd and in the second one he was forced to abandon because of a technical problem.
In the EMX250, Samuele Bernardini made too many mistakes and after having succeeded in qualifying he finished 28th.
In the EMX125 race, the two riders of the FIM project went on with their apprenticeship: Ravera finished 23rd and Zonta finished 27th.
Now fifteen days to relax and then we will fly to Brazil for the seventh GP of the 2013 season.

“Except the second race of Mx1 where Shaun finished 10th, I’m not satisfied with the results of this GP. In both the European Championships, our riders didn’t shine. There was the possibility of gaining some points but too many crashes compromised our performance. Even in Mx2 we had a disappointing week end, since Saturday Ivo Monticelli didn’t find the right feeling with the circuit.”
Ivo Monticelli – MX2 rider:
“I have no words about my GP. Since Saturday, I didn’t succeed in finding the right lines and this made me nervous. Then I even got wrong about the settings of my bike. I’m really angry with myself for my bad performance.”
Shaun Simpson – MX1 rider:
“My GP was marked by ups and downs. In the Qualifying Race, I crashed with Guarneri and I broke the radiator and I was forced to abandon. On Sunday, I started well in both the races. In the first heat, I was 7th but then I made a stupid mistake on a jump and I lost two positions. Three laps before the chequered flag, both Strijbos and Gonçalves overtook me and I finished 11th. In the second heat, I had a good start but I finished 10th. There are some improvements, I gained 21 points and caught up two positions in the overall classification. Now we are ready for leaving for Brazil and I hope to improve again my performance.”
