Podiums At The BYN for Keenan and Kacey

Agosto 18, 2014

Round 4 of the 2014 British Youth National series took place this past weekend at the Milton Malsor circuit near Northampton. The ‘man-made’ circuit with numerous jumps, but little in the way of natural elevation, proved to be difficult as a singular line formed that made passing extremely difficult and made a good start and clean first turn crucial.

Riding once again where the two brothers of Keenan and Kacey Hird, Keenan on his big wheel TM 85 MX machine and younger brother Kacey on his small wheel TM 85 MX machine. It was a great weekend of results for the two boys and here is brief rundown of the weekends action.

Keenan started his weekend taking 8th place in the qualifying session on Saturday morning and set himself up with a reasonable gate pick for the 7 scheduled races. The first two races were not so good for Keenan as a malfunctioning hole-shot device un-clipped itself at the vital moment and hampered his first two starts, this was only worsened by some falls losing him more ground that he had already gained back. From race three onwards Keenan was back in the action early doors and away with the leading group battling at the front and taking wins as the races progressed. Riding very smooth and controlled Keenan headed the field home on 3 separate occasions, looking comfortable, yet calculating, Keenan lead the races running the required pace with great consistency setting some of the fastest laps in many races to end his weekend with a 10 / 6 / 4 / 1 / 1 / 2 / 1 scorecard. These results gave Keenan the overall win for the weekend and he now leads the championship by 37 points as we look forward to the final round in a couple of weeks time.

In the small wheel class Kacey started his weekend off well qualifying in 4th place, showing good speed and using some clever lines, where they actually formed, Kacey was able to clear some of the biggest jumps on the track which gave him somewhere to actually try to make some ground on his opponents if required. With 7 good starts Kacey was able to be right in the thick of the action early doors and with good consistency, even after some small mistakes, he settled into a good rhythm that paid dividends. Kacey ended the weekend with a 2 / 2 / 1 / 3 / 3 2 / 4 scorecard, his last race result costing him the overall win after being stopped in his tracks whilst battling for the lead by a fallen competitor in the latter stages. Kacey ended his weekend with a great second overall, took his first race win in the class, and whilst riding in some discomfort after forming some nasty blisters on Saturday afternoon. Kacey now sits in 3rd place in the overall championship standings with 7 races remaining next time out at Leuchars.

Well done to Keenan and Kacey, great riding, great results. A big thank you to all of the helpers and supporters, and finally, a massive thank you to all of the sponsors who make all of this possible.

Thank you, TM UK.
