World Championship S1GP Catalunya

We have reached the penultimate round of the Supermoto World Championship which took place on the Alcarras track, a technical track with a long dirt track and a part of the sky section. The L30 Racing team presents itself at this event with its two top riders Marc Schmidt in S1 and Kevin Vandi in S4 respectively leading their classes.

S1GP

In qualifying Marc Schmidt did not immediately find the right feeling with the track, struggling more than expected and setting the third fastest time overall, Elia Sammartin also in difficulty did not go beyond the eighth fastest time. Mitja Krasniqi 14th and Erik Provaznik 21st.The super pole saw Marc improve his performance taking second place.

The first heat which is held on Saturday when the red light goes out Schmidt maintains second position at the first corner, the German driver tried to keep the pace of the leader but did not want to overdo it so as not to make a mistake and with a very intelligent race he finished in second place. Elia Sammartin managed to improve with an excellent race, finishing in sixth place. Erik Provaznik 18th and Mitja Krasniqi 20th

The Fast Race, the first heat on Sunday once again sees Marc Schmidt chasing the leader, the German, after a good start, moved into first position trying to maintain the pace. Schmidt remained very close for most of the race but would have had to risk more than expected to look for an attack and was content with second place finish. Elia Sammartin did very well to recover from a less than optimal grid position, finishing in sixth position. Erik Provaznik 16th and Mitja Krasniqi 19th

The final race of the day, the Super Final, saw fortune turn away from Marc Schmidt, in this race the reigning world champion seemed to be able to keep up with his direct opponent but about halfway through the race due to a technical problem he had to slow down and finish in ninth position. Elia Sammartin put in a good heat which led him to finish in sixth place, significantly improving his lap times. Erik Provaznik 16th and Mitja Krasniqi 19th.

Marc Schmidt manages to confirm his red card again but with only three points ahead.

S4

In this event Kevin Vandi is aware that he must try to stay as close as possible to his direct rival who is at home on this track, the young driver from Romagna achieved the third best time in qualifying but very close to pole position, Lorenzo Papalini closes with the eighth time.

In the first heat, Kevin Vandi was very incisive right from the start of the race, managing to stay very close to the first two. Kevin made the most of his position and managed to finish in second place. Lorenzo Papalini, after a first part of the race where he struggled, found his rhythm finishing in fourth place.

A few minutes before the start of the first heat the rain made its appearance making the track very slippery, Lorenzo Papalini took a gamble by starting with slick tires unfortunately the track only dried up in the last laps and his choice didn’t pay off and could not do better than seventh place. With the wet track conditions, Vandi, after a careful start which saw him in third position at the first corner, tried right up to the checkered flag to overtake his rivals but without success.Kevin Vandi finishes the race second overall and manages to increase his lead in the standings.

Next appointment with the world championship at the beginning of October with the last race in Mettet in Belgium.

Ivan Lazzarini: “A bit of a bitter weekend, unfortunately Marc’s technical problem in the third heat which made us lose several points but we are still leading the championship and we will prepare for Mettet. Sammartin had a weekend improving his performance, good race for Provaznik and Krasniqi. Kevin did well in S4 and increased his lead in the standings. It’s a shame that Papalini took a gamble with the slick in race 2.
