TM MOTOSTEELS DR JACK – GP OF LETTONIA – WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MX2 RD9 – EMX125 RD6
12 June 2024
The ninth round of the MXGP World Championship took place on the sandy Kegums track in Latvia. The GP of Latvia was the return to MX2 for our Yago Martinez after his injury in Montevarchi and a new appointment in the EMX125 European Championship for Brando Rispoli.
In the MX2 time trials Yago finished 16th fastest, which was the base from which to start the RAM qualifying race. It was a race that started badly for him, with a nasty crash in the early stages. The Spanish rider tried to ride on, but could only manage 26th place.
On Sunday, at the start of the first race, his start from the gate was good, but after the first few laps he found himself in more than 15th position. As the minutes ticked by, his action seemed to be less and less effective, partly due to his less than perfect physical condition. He finished the race in 23rd place.
The second race started better, Yago was immediately close to the top ten, but again he lost positions and lap after lap he found himself on the edge of the points. At the end of the race he had the strength to fight for the twentieth position, the last one useful to take rain points.
A race of suffering for him, which will hopefully serve to regain the best condition in view of the important commitments that await us in the next two weeks.
Yago occupies 24th position after nine rounds of the MX2 World Championship.
YAGO MARTINEZ: ‘Difficult race, there is not much to say about this weekend. This sandy track was difficult for me and on Sunday I did not find a good rhythm. There is a lot of championship ahead of us, we will work until the results come”.
Brando began his weekend with time trials to qualify for the 125cc heats. He qualified 16th in his group, but that would have meant a big handicap at the start.
In the first race, which took place in the afternoon, he managed to stay in the top ten throughout the heat, eventually finishing 12th. In the second race on Sunday he made a good start but a rider fell in front of him and he was unable to avoid him. He rejoined the race from the back of the pack and tried to make up as much ground as possible, eventually taking 20th place at the chequered flag.
With these results, Brando is twelfth in the championship standings after six rounds of the EMX125 European Championship.
BRANDO RISPOLI: ‘It was a weekend with many ups and downs. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to find the right feeling with the track, but let’s look at the positives, there are still more tests to prove that we can be among the best in this championship. See you at Maggiora! Thank you to everyone who is helping me.
The next appointment for both of them and the team is already next weekend, when the Italian GP for both categories will be held at Maggiora. Let’s hope the air at home is good for some good results.
