TM MOTO STEELS DR JACK – EUROPEAN EMX250 – RD04 – GP OF SPAIN
For the fourth round of the EMX250 European Championship, we moved to Iberian soil. The Spanish GP was held at Arroyomolinos. A track with a hard surface located near a commercial area near Madrid, is becoming a fixed stop for the MXGP and other championships.
Meico Vettik riding our TM started with the time trials, which saw him finish with the seventh-fastest time, one of the best performances this year.
At the start of the first heat, which was run as usual on Saturday afternoon, Meico got off to a bad start but managed to squeeze through the first few corners well and pass just outside the top ten on the first lap. As usual, the Estonian driver’s pace is always excellent, allowing him to make another comeback. After several overtaking moves, he came in eighth place at the finish line.
Sunday morning the start of race two was also one to forget. Practically last at the first corner, he started yet another comeback heat. On a track that was flooded due to the hot day, Meico made his way back up, albeit with difficulty given the conditions. At the chequered flag, he finished eleventh, just a few tenths from the top ten.
With these results, Meico finished the day’s overall eighth and now occupies the twelfth position in the championship standings.
The European Championship takes a short break to return with the Latvian GP in June.
If we can solve the problem at the start there will be fun to be had.
Next weekend we will be engaged in the third round of the Italian Pro Prestige. It will be run on our land, the Marche, on the Monterosato di Fermo track.
MEICO VETTIK: “In the first heat I was probably last in the start straight. Then I took the inside line in the start corner and it was completely open, so I recovered a lot from there and after the first lap I was probably 13th or something. I kept driving and tried to pass as fast as I could, but the track was rough and everyone had the same speed. Eventually, I made a few more overtakes and finished 8th. In the second moto, the start was bad again and I could not get the same line as in the first race, so it was an even worse start for my heart. In the second corner, I was still in last place but just after the second corner I started to overtake the guys in front of me and I think I did well on the muddy track. I didn’t expect to be able to get this 11th place at the end of the moto, I am happy. Another weekend, another top ten for us, every weekend we improve. I hope we will continue the way we are going now and one day we will also take the holeshot!”
