TM MOTO STEELS DR JACK – GP OF GALICIA – MX2 RD6 – EMX125 RD4
May 15, 2024
For the second of three consecutive World/European rounds we went to Lugo, on Spanish soil. The GP of Galicia was the sixth round of the World Championship and the fourth for the EMX125 European Championship with our riders Yago Martinez and Brando Rispoli.
Late on Saturday morning, Yago posted the 17th fastest time in the time trial, which earned him a good starting position in the qualifying race. The start of the RAM qualifying race was good and Yago was immediately in the top ten. After a few laps, while running in twelfth place, he damaged his gear lever in a gully, forcing him to slow down and then retire.
Unfortunately, starting from the back of the grid, Yago’s Sunday was not easy. Although he started well in both heats, he had to queue up with those who had the corner in their favour and found himself constantly catching up from behind. In the first race he struggled and with several overtaking manoeuvres came to the edge of the points and finished in 21st place. In race two he started in the same way, but this time he climbed faster and was able to snatch 20th place in the final laps, earning a point in the championship.
After six rounds of the MX2 World Championship Yago is 26th in the standings.
YAGO MARTINEZ: “It was my home race and I wanted to do well. On Saturday, however, we had some mechanical problems and some bad luck that forced me to drop out of qualifying when I was just inside the top ten. Sunday was a difficult day as I had to start from a bad position on a track where overtaking was difficult. I gave 100% and I am happy! See you in France. As always, thanks to the team and TM Moto”.
For Brando, Saturday’s time trials saw him finish eighth in his EMX125 group.
In the afternoon, at the start of the first race, he was involved in a group crash on the first corner. After freeing himself, he returned to the race and tried to recover as much as possible. He crossed the line in 20th place.
In race two the start was again not perfect, but this time Brando was quicker to recover and on the first lap he was already close to the top ten. His race continued in these positions and he finished in 10th place.
With these results he finished the day in 16th place and is now 12th in the championship.
BRANDO RISPOLI: “A weekend of ups and downs, we saw positive and negative things. This time it was more negative, two bad starts did not allow me to give my best on a track that I like so much. In race one I was overwhelmed and crushed by all the bikes that crashed at the start, then a small comeback to get a point. A 10th in race two, still in a comeback, gives morale for France. I will see you there, I thank everyone who helps me”.
The next event, the third in a row, takes place next weekend on transalpine soil. The French GP will take place at the St Jean d’Angely circuit.
